New member to be safe guarded from pending society legal cases

I recently purchased a property in Kurla, Mumbai and have received the share certificate in my name. In interacting with the members of the society, it has come to my attention that there is are legal cases going on with one of the society members regarding non-payment of maintenance charges. This member has claimed an exorbitant amount of 50Lacs from the society claiming a goof up on his accounts. As a new member, I would like to absolve myself from any claims that the individual members may have against the society. How do I ensure I'm safe guarded from such claims.

1.  Since you have voluntarily obtained membership of Society,  by legal default, all members become bound by the pending /new liabilities of the Society.

2. You may resign from the Society membership, which will absolve you from any claims of Society.
