Is letter written by wife is "admission" as per evidence act

Is letter written by wife (alive then and still alive)from her parental home for husband and posted to him is "admission" as per evidence act sec 17 and can be used  against the maker as per law and can not be used as evidence against husband (as it is self serving evidence for wife)

wife filed false 498a case after 2 year of that letter

Yes it can be used either for the husband in disproving the offence against him and work up as an admission against the wife being a self harming admission it is relevant against the wife as you rightly pointed out. Against the husband - it's relevancy is nil (normally though there are exceptions laid down) as a self serving admission is not a relevant admission. (however it may work up as res gestae/dd etc)
