Expired lease and troublesome owner. pls advice

Hi,

I am staying in a rented property for the past 18 mths. My lease was valid for 11 months, however, my landlord has not renewed the lease and I continue to stay there. Due to personal reasons, I am relocating and informed him about the notice period. He has been quite badly behaved ever since I informed him of my departure.

The catch is, when the owner handed me the keys to the flat, several items like geysers were malfunctioning. I found this out about a week after I moved in and informed him, but he refused to fix it. My question is, is it possible for him to charge me any more than my existing security deposit with him? He seems to be the kind who would be all out to extract the maximum possible from me, however, I want to be aware of my rights. Given there is only an expired lease agreement, am I liable to pay any more damages than the remainder of my security deposit that he has with him? I do not want to pay for any damage that was already there when I moved in, hence my question.

Any advice or pointers is greatly appreciated!

The lease period was expired hence it is inapplicable in your case, however, you wouldnot be able to recover your security, settle the matter amicably, if possible

The owner will deduct for the damages from your security deposit amount, however he may even demand more owing to the nature of the damages or to his own nature, it is better to settle the issues amicably and vacate the place.
