If the marriage intended to be under Special marriage Act, then one month notice is mandatory.
If the marriage is under Hindu Marriage Act, then you can solemnize the marriage in a temple, or Arya Samaj (they give certificate also) and with wedding card, photo graph proofs, you can register your marriage under Section 8 of the Hindu Marriage Act, the very next day.

Along with the application for intending marriage under Special Marriage Act, both bride and groom require to file affidavits in prescribed proforma. You get your affidavit attested at the Embassy of Australia and also get attested power of attorney in favour of to one of your near relative for the purpose of filing the applicatin and after 30 days on the date of registration, you come and sign the register and get certificate. You also note that NOC is also required for the people living abroad.
