Advocate Abbas Kazmi has decided to continue defending lone captured Pakistani gunman in 26/11 attacks Ajmal Amir Kasab, after having discussion with the terrorist following the special court’s direction to sort out their differences after the lawyer today said that he was unwilling to represent Kasab.
As soon as the court assembled for the second session’s proceedings, Mr Kazmi told Judge M L Tahilyani that he will continue to defend Kasab in 26/11 terrorist attack case as the matter was sorted out.
Earlier, Mr Kazmi told Judge Tahilyani that he wanted to withdraw from the case as his client had lost confidence in him.
Judge Tahilyani then turned towards Kasab and asked him about Mr Kazmi’s statement, to which the accused said he did not understand what his lawyer told the court.
The Judge then explained Kasab that his lawyer wanted to withdraw himself from the case as the accused had lost faith in him.
To this Kasab said "Maine to aisa nahi bola hai, agar unko yeh lagta hai to woh jane" (I have not told him so, if he feels that way then he knows better).
Thereafter, the Judge ordered Kasab and his lawyer to sort out the issue by discussing between themselves and inform the court in the afternoon session.
Kasab had on Monday pleaded guilty to his role in the November 26 terrorists attacks case. Even though Kazmi said that his client was subjected to mental torture following which he had confessed, Kasab refuted Kazmi’s version and said he was under no pressure.
