Hello sir, greetings of the day.
As per your query, I am explaining in details about the Mathadi Act. Mathadi Act is an act for regulating the employment of unprotected manual workers those are employed in certain employments in the State of Maharashtra and to make provisions for their adequate supply and proper and complete utilization in such employments, and for matters connected therewith. The State of Maharastra has enacted the Maharashtra Mathadi, Hamal and Other Manual Workers (Regulation of Employment and Welfare) Act, 1969. And a 'mathadi worker' is an unprotected worker in the 'scheduled employment', it is an employment specified in the Schedule to the Act, i.e., 'employment in vegetable markets in connection with loading, unloading, stacking, weighing, measuring, sewing, stitching, sorting, cleaning or such jobs. A mathadi labourer is typically a daily wage labourer who is mostly involved in such type of work that requires physical labour. The Mathadis transport goods on their heads. Out of the fear that they would lose their livelihood, the state had implemented an Act to ensure companies hire such labourers for loading and unloading of goods. The overarching objective of implementing this act was to make provisions for adequate supply of manual labour in scheduled employments, appropriate utilisation of available labour, providing better terms and the working conditions of employment, and assuring welfare, health and safety measures to the workers. Implementation of this act is being monitored by the mathadi boards. As of now, there are 36 mathadi boards all over Maharashtra. These boards have limited the number of workers to be registered, to avoid the situation of unemployment.
Hope this solves your query.
