Kolkata: Seven lakh girls are killed by parents every year in India even before they are born, NHRC member and former envoy Satyabrata Pal claimed.

"When a woman finds she is pregnant, anxieties set in about the s*x of the unborn child. Ruthless foeticide often follows if tests that are illegal, but easy to get, show it is a girl," Pal said while delivering the Sisir Bose Memorial lecture at Netaji Research Bureau here last night.

Is it a time when the West stop dictating its terms on emerging nations?
Yes
No

The former diplomat, who was quoting UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund and formerly known as United Nations Fund for Population Activities), also quoted another statistics about 2000 yet unborn-girls meeting similar fate in the womb for the same reason.

"On a scale of cruelty, encounter deaths between security forces and gangs, are a tear drop in the ocean," Pal said.

"While 1.72 million children die in India each year before the age of one, because of our gender bias, the mortality rate is even higher for girls than boys," he said.

Over 15 per cent of births are not planned as some parents have no access to family planning services.

Of the children born, 25 per cent are underweight at birth and continue to be undernourished, Pal said quoting the international body's report on status of children in India.

"The percentage of under five children who are underweight is almost 20 times as high in India as would be expected in a healthy, well nourished population and is almost twice as high as the average percentage of under-weight children in sub-Saharan African countries," Pal said. Speaking about child labour, he said, "It is shameful that in the 21st century, world's largest democracy is still not prepared to outlaw child labour."

It is nothing but a genocide and a crime against humanity at par with Hitler Nazi Regime against the helpless and the undefended unborn child facilitiated by The Medical termination of Pregnancy Act, a law worst than Armed forces Special Power Act. Now the power of Life and Death has been taken away from the Legislatures, Judiciary and the Armed forces and wholesome power is conferred on the Doctors to take away life of the Unborn child without affording them the opprtunity to defend.

Hello Everyone,

what i am writing here are not my views but i rread an article in one of the news paper lonng time back, based on that .

One of the key reason of killing of female foticides is the social security. Yes.

since the day a girl takes birth she needs care at every step. Biologically females' are the sufferers most of the time. A girl is not safe in society, parents has to take care and has to save her from all the ill will in the society may it be own famliy (relatives), neighbours, school, colleges, fellows etc. Every day we hear news like rape, killing girl for one side love, absued by boy friend or teased by miscreants, marrige, home cruelity by husband and so on..even she e is not safe in Police stations, lots of true stories.

there are some parents who want baby girl but due to unsafe and insecure society they avoide this. once Govt ensure safety and securtiy of girs/ ladies then encourage and propogate this.

Recent example of Aarushi murder.
