I am a student of a govt. funded university enrolled in Integrated dual degree programme. Recently our college introduced a new rule AMIDST OF RUNNING SESSION of the session(5th semester) that if a student wants to be promoted to 5th semester, he should clear his backlogs of 1st semester, to be promoted to 6th semester, he should clear his backlogs of 2nd semester and so on. This rule was implemented on the batch that was already in the 5th semester in the middle of the session.The students who were admitted in the 5th semester were already about this rule as they had been promoted .There was a mass agitation and students went on a strike against the college.the college authorities assured us that they will apply the rule "next year" and the old circulars were removed, but no new notice was put up and they didnt give us anything in written either.
Suddenly when we went to the 6th semester,nearing the exams, they said the rule has already been applied and is valid on every person studying in the university RIGHT AT THE MOMENT IT WAS PASSED. alongwith 6th semester exams, we gave our 2nd semester backlog papers in between hectic schedule and many students failed. The students are not being promoted to next semester(7th) because of this useless rule which was implemented suddenly on the students who already fulfilled the criteria for being promoted till 6th semester( above 4.0 CGPA and 11 credits) amidst of the session. any student who has EVEN ONE OR TWO BACKLOGS in 1,2 or 3rd semester will not be promoted to 7th semester.The students will not be allowed to sit in the exams and will have to clear the backlogs without being admitted in the college and if they promote, they will have to wait for the next batch and then only they can join them. inspite of repeatedly asking institute for conducting special papers, the university is not conducting any special papers for helping us out and is suddenly imposing this rule on us WHICH WAS NOT MENTIONED IN THE BROCHURE AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION AND NEITHER APPLIED ON A NEW BATCH since the introduction.Since this is a government university, the university does not fear anything. but, we do, it is the matter of 1 complete educational year. We students cannot bear this loss and sudden pressure as we already have a lot to worry about. we didnt come this far to lose one year. Please guide us students as we already are depressed about our future, fate and destiny and are willing to get any sort of relief that we can.
