Tds duduction

Sir, I am an govt. employee. My office had purchased some saree as a gift from a showroom by payment in cheque without deduction TDS . Now I want to know whether TDS deduction is applicable or not. Kindly convey experts opinion. Thanks

On purchase of saree and payment made by cheques, there is no liability for deduction of TDS.

Thanks for response. Actually our Internal Audit raised objection. The cost of sarees was Rs 79000.00. They told that amount is more than 30000.00 so tds should be deducted. Please clarify. Thanks.
