BIRTH CERTIFICATE

Can a person give any name to his newborn child

I mean can the newborn child be given a surname different from his father's

 

What is the legal sanctity of this, if the child get different surname than his father;s

Can any legal or heir issue can arise in these matters

if you give the different surname he will be known by that surname and what's about the relation, how come you will prove that such person is related to so and so person.  The surname represents the family. If you have got any idea to give different surname then dont go for it because in future it will be a problem for the person to whom the different surname is given.

There is no bar to give different surname but you will have to face the problems in future.

But i would like to know that if i add surname of my child as "vashistha' which is my gotra name, would there be any problem in future

My surname is JHA,

I have seen many person whose surname is 'Sharma' but they use their gotra name like Bharadwaj, Kashyap, Vashistha, Gautam etc.
