How much to pay to a lawyer

Hello,

How much should I pay a lawyer in district court for preparing a draft to file the initial petition, an O39R1,2 application and thereafter for each court hearing, how much should I pay? This is in district court and the case is for ancestral house partition and possession.

Lawyers and paralegals calculate their fees using different methods12:

  • Hourly fee: Most lawyers and paralegals charge an hourly rate for their services, and bill in 1/10th of an hour increments12.
  • Flat rate: Some lawyers charge a fixed amount for certain types of cases, such as family law, real estate, and wills and powers of attorney1.
  • Contingency fees: Some lawyers charge a percentage of the amount they recover for their clients in cases such as personal injury or wrongful dismissal1.
  • Retainers and disbursements: Some lawyers and paralegals require a deposit or advance payment before they start working on a case, and charge for expenses such as court fees, photocopies, and travel.

The acceptance of lawyer fee can be decided by the client after understanding about the terms made by the lawyer, he proposes to engage for his case.

Hence you can fix all the terms at the beginning itself to avoid future disputes or misunderstanding.
