Mode of communication from medical board

As per court order I have to appear before medical board for my medical checkup. After receiving the order in this regard, the medical board sent me a letter through ordinary post asking me to appear before medical board on july 2nd. But I received it only on july 3rd as it was sent ,as per postal seal, only on july 1st. Now medical board is refusing to give another date saying it was my fault and they had posted it two weeks before and the post office people might be delayed it.

So, what can I do in such a situation? Is there any provision in law making it mandatory such correspondance through registerd post only? How to defend myself in court when they report that I failed to appear before medical board on given date?
