Law Syllabus

Mr. Kapil Sibal is an high profile Education Minister in the Manmohan Singh's cabinet.  Being a lawyer himself why can't he introduce Uniform Syllabus in Law subjects. In other words, a law student who is studying in Kashmir should have the same syllabus and subjects as his colleague studying law in Madurai or Kanyakumari.  This would pave way for innovative practice of professional ethics which would help in a big way in disposal of pending cases in the judiciary.  There would also be a healthy competition.

well u ve raised a good point, in fact the whole system needs change....however the students studying in J&K will have read different laws like Ranbir Penal Code etc.

but there can be a common syllabus for the basic subjects like Jurisprudence, contract, IPC etc.....for State Laws there can not be uniformity.

and above all the teaching standards in all the law colleges shall be similar....the mushrooming of law colleges needed to be stopped.

finally prior to Mr. Kapil Sibal, the matter needs to be considered by the Bar Council of India.

Whatever it is, there is no harm in learning Ranbir Penal Code, as being a citizen of this country I can represent any client whether he is a Punjabi or Keralite.  The issue is unless there is a common syllabus, we will never get opportunity to learn those laws. Family Law, Law of Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, IPC etc do have commonalities but the syllabus and teaching standards vary from state to state.
