Land ownership on natham land

Dear Legal Experts

Need your Legal Advice.

My father purchased a vacant land  "NATHAM LAND" in  his village in Thoothukudi district 20 years back.

This land was purchased and it was executed on my mother's name through a sale deed in the Registration office. now we have the documents of the land on my mother;s name. My father passed away.

Now few of my father's relatives who live behind the land is now claiming ownership on the land which is on my mother;s name. Also they had filed a civil case in the court.

When we enquired for applying for patta for the land, the VAO said the land is NATHAM LAND and no patta's will be issued.

Now we have the sale deed by which the property was transferred to my mothers name and its original mother documents. Is there a possibility to claim ownership on the land by any one else legally though they are not legal heirs of the original owner who sold the land to my father.

Please help to give your advice.
