A macabre tale witnessed in broad daylight on Vijaya Dashami day in Guwahati Thursday (Oct 6). When the entire city was immersed in festive spirit, a ghastly murder has sent shockwaves across Assam. Ranjit Kumar Das, a resident of Japorigog area in Guwahati, beheaded his wife for allegedly having an illicit affair. Ranjit Kumar Das, who hails from Tihu in Nalbari district, beheaded wife Amoya Daimari Das with a sharp machete and with no regret, carried the severed head to the Dispur police station where he surrendered himself. After committing the ghastly murder, Das seemed to walk with pride and the onlookers were horrified to see fresh blood dripping from the severed head. Speaking toNEWS LIVE, Das said he has no regret for the heinous crime committed. The beheaded body of his wife was found lying in their residence at Japorigog.
Ranjit Kumar Das was married to Amoya Daimari for the last about ten years, having two children, aged nine and six years respectively. Meanwhile, their younger son, Ashim Das is reported to be missing from Japorigog residence after the incident, which has deepened the mystery behind the murder. Their elder son, Bishal Das is at their original home at Tihu. Amoya was working as a nurse at Orang in Darang district. Police investigation is on and the body of Amoya Daimari Das has been sent for post mortem examination.
