Equequal rights to mothers to give caste identity to child

I belong to General Caste. My wife belongs to OBC. We have a child. Both we are resident of Assam, Hindu in religion. At large Indian society is patriarchial. But now sons and daughters both have equal rights on parents property. Girls may not change their titles after marriage or may, as per her will --regarding this too justice delivered to females. My wife wants to give her OBC caste identity to her child. But as we know, child only gets his/her father's caste identity in India. Why this discrimination to female? Souldn't girls too have equal rights to decide the caste of her child? How it can be execute under indian law? Is there any provision to give my child his/her mother's caste identity i.e. OBC?
