Employment verification after leaving the company

Dear Forum Members

Can an employer intiate an employment verification 3 months after the employee has left the company ? In my case, he has done falsely stating to my ex-employers that I am still a current employer with them. Also he has checked my residential antecedents (for verification)  without my knowledge/intimation. Does it amount to breach of privacy or any other breach of law ? Thanks for your kind advice.

For what reason your EX-Employer did a background verification check?

Do you have any pendings with your  EX-Employer ?

If  so then you can't sue your EX Employer.

Thanks. I had no pending issues and I was relived with a formal relieving letter. The company had to settle my dues for which I had sent a legal notice. The employment verification was done 3 months after this and they had misrepresented to the past employers that I was a current employee and are seeking background verification. I smell malice.
