Criminal stand for Society Elections Mah

Can a member who has been convicted in the past  for criminal activities stand for a societies election in Maharashtra? If he does then how should he be barred from the election.

There is no provision in Maharashtra Societies Act which may debar such a member to contest the election unless specifically debarred by any competent court of law.
