Early hearing application for respondents

We are a respondent in a CRP in Karnataka High Court. For some reason the Court has still not indicated if the CRP filed by petioners as admitted or dismissed. So we pressed our lawyer to file an early hearing application in the Court u/s 151 of CPC. Incidentally the respondent is a senior citizen suffering from various ailments. However, our lawyer is saying that only a petitioner can file an early hearing application. The respondent has no such right.

Can you please clarify if the respondent has no such rights?
