1. For marriage purposes age of majority considered is 18 years for girl and 21 years for boy barring few exceptions.

2. What is more important in marriage is both should be mentally, physically and financially mature enough to sustain marriage.

3. Yes, if approached to STATE via an Advocate protection could be sought against adverse men and agents trying to harm such couple(s).

Besides what Mr. Tajobs India said, though legally one who is 18 years or more is a major capable of making his or her own decisions, real majority for various purposes is reached at various ages beyond 18.

Permission of parents may not be necessary. But is it advisable to get their opinion?  All parents are normally keen on the welfare of their children. Also they would have passed through younger ages and would have become mature. Further the girl and boy may be purely guided by their emotions, parents will use their experience and intelligence to guide their children.

Also there are cheats on the prowl and it will be foolish to decide on marriage without knowing complete background of the other party.

I do not say that parents will always consider the interests of their wards. But if one should get older than 21 if one were to decide on one's own, whether it is boy or girl.
