Transfer of title deed

Hi,

My mother has land in Rajkot in jointly with my father. My father has passed away and did not leave a will. She wanted to sale the land but wanted to find out whether the land automatically becomes hers or does she need to do a transfer of deeds. She resides in the UK where the spouse automatically gets the husbands share after probate has been obtained( which is now has) however i do not think this applys in India?

any advice would be appreciated.
