Renewal Of Passport Cannot Be Refused Merely On Ground Of Pendency Of Criminal Appeal

The case was of Vangala Kasturi Rangacharyulu v. CBI. The decision was given by Justices L. Nageswara Rao and BR Gavai. The Court directed the passport authority to renew the passport of the applicant without raising the objection relating to the pendency of the criminal appeal. Renewal of passport cannot be refused merely on the ground of pendency of criminal appeal.

The Court reprimanded the practice of putting up posters, cut-outs, banners featuring political leaders for minor functions that impede pedestrian and vehicular movement.

Dependent Cannot Seek Compassionate Appointment On Higher Post Than Held By Deceased Employee

The case was of State of Uttar Pradesh v. Premlatha. The decision was given by Justices MR Shah and AS Bopanna. The whole object of granting compassionate employment is to enable the family to tide over the sudden crisis.The compassionate ground is a concession and not a right. A dependent/applicant cannot seek compassionate appointment on the higher post than what was held by the deceased employee.
