SC Will Hear Pleas Challenging Cancellation of CBSE, ICSE Physical Exams

The Supreme Court will be hearing the writ petitions which challenge the CBSE and ICSE decision to cancel physical exams. The case will be heard by the Vacation Bench composed of Justice A M Khanwilkar and Justice Dinesh Maheshwari. Senior Advocate Vikas Singh would be appearing as the intervenor. The Bench has commented that the students need a ray of hope and security, not uncertainty. Hence the Bench said that it is important to ensure finalty in this matter.

SC Reserves Judgement On Ex-Gratia Compensation For COVID Victims Case 

The Supreme Court has reserved its judgement on the pleas seeking ex-gratia compensation to families of the deceased who passed away due to the COVID 19 pandemic. The Bench, consisting of Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice M R Shah will be hearing the matter. The parties to the case have to file written submission within 72 hours. Senior Advocate S B Upadhay would be appearing from the Petitioner’s side. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta would be representing the Union of India.

Bombay HC: Rana Ayyub Granted 4 Weeks Anticipatory Bail 

The Bombay High Court granted a 4 week long transit anticipatory bail to journalist Rana Ayyub. The FIR was registered in Uttar Pradesh regarding a tweet made by her over the assault of an elderly man. The anticipatory bail was granted by Justice P D Naik so that Ayyub could seek appropriate relief from the appropriate courts. The accused has to secure a bond of Rupees 25000. Rana Ayyub is being represented by Senior Advocate Mihir Desai.

Gujarat HC: Gujarat Liquor Prohibition Challenged; Right To privacy Invoked

The Gujarat High Court has been hearing a set of petitions that have challenged the ban on manufacture, sale and consumption of liquor in the state. The Gujarat Prohibition Act, 1949 has been challenged on the grounds of arbitrariness and violation of Right to Privacy. The Division Bench of Chief Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Biren Vaishnav will be hearing the matter.

Karnataka HC: Personal Law cannot Override POCSO Act

The Karnataka High Court has held that even through second marriage may be permissible under Personal Laws, the Personal Law cannot override the Special Law of POCSO, Child Marriage Restraints Act and the General Penal Code of India. The decision was given by the Single Bench of Justice K Natarajan. It would send a wrong message towards society and it was in the best interest of the public at large to curtail such types of offences.
