It's Time We Define Limits Of Sedition: Supreme Court Stays Coercive Actions Against Telugu Channels On Sedition FIR

In the FIRs filed by Andhra Pradesh police charging sedition against two Telugu broadcasters, TV5 news and ABN Andhra Jyoti, the Supreme Court on Monday delayed coercive action against them. The channels have filed writs seeking the quashing of FIRs as well as contempt petitions alleging that the Andhra Police action breached the Supreme Court's April 30 ruling prohibiting citizens from being arrested or prosecuted for airing objections over COVID concerns.

On Monday, the Supreme Court grilled the Central Government on the reasoning for its COVID vaccine dual pricing and procurement policy, as well as its departure from the National Immunization Program and its mandate of COWIN App registration.

On May 31, a three-judge panel consisting of Justices D. Y. Chandrachud, L. Nageswara Rao, and Ravindra Bhat heard a suo moto case on COVID problems (In Re-Distribution of Essential Services and Supplies During Pandemic).

What do you think about the case?

The police apologise for handcuffing the lawyer, and the Bombay High Court has asked the district judge to investigate the illegal arrest. 

The Bombay High Court recently ordered an investigation into a 37-year-old Mumbai lawyer's suspected illegal detention. The advocate's kidnapping and extortion case were also transferred to the Maharashtra CID from the Kharghar police station in Navi Mumbai. RM Joshi, Principal District and Sessions Judge (Thane), will investigate whether attorney Vimal Jha (37) was unlawfully detained by the Kharghar Police from April 3 to 5, if the Police were justified in handcuffing him to court, and whether their allegations about the lack of CCTV evidence are true.

On Monday (May 31), the Madhya Pradesh High Court issued notice to the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the State Government in response to a petition filed by four legal journalists requesting authorization for live-streaming and live to report. The notifications were issued by a Division Bench of Justices Sheel Nagu and GS Ahluwalia, who noted that the Petitioners have an arguable case and scheduled a hearing for June 9.

The Delhi High Court on Monday questioned the Centre and the Delhi Government on how they will prioritise drug allocation to treat Black fungus and adjourned the case until tomorrow. A division bench comprising of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Jasmeet Singh stated that neither the Centre nor the state government can "duck" the obligation of allocating vials and that it is a choice that political leadership will have to make in collaboration with medical professionals.

Kerala Assembly Passes Unanimous Resolution 'Recall Lakshadweep Administrator; Cancel Proposed Regulations

The Kerala Legislative Assembly, expressing solidarity with the people of Lakshadweep, approved a unanimous motion on Monday calling for the recall of administrator Praful Khoda Patel and the withdrawal of his proposed regulations, which have sparked outrage among island inhabitants. The 140-member assembly has called on the central government to intervene immediately to defend the archipelago's livelihood and cultural uniqueness in the Arabian Sea.

On June 2, the Supreme Court will hear the Madras Bar Association's request to stay the Tribunal Reforms Ordinance

The Supreme Court on Monday postponed till Wednesday the hearing of the Madras Bar Association's petition challenging the Tribunal Reforms (Rationalization & Conditions Of Service) Act, which alters sections 184 and 186 of the Finance Act 2017.

Initially, a three-judge bench consisting of Justice Nageswara Rao, Justice Hemant Gupta, and Justice Ravindra Bhat was inclined to begin hearing the arguments today, but it was subsequently decided to defer the case since all of the Judges did not have all of the compilations provided by the Counsels.
