Centre To Supreme Court: MHA Notification Not Related To CAA

‘The notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on 28th May, 2021 has no relation to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019’, the Centre has submitted to the SC. This was in response to an Intervention Application filed by the Indian Union Muslim League. It was contended that the impugned notification is merely a process of decentralization of decision-making aimed at speedy disposal of citizenship application of foreigners.

Lakshadweep Filmmaker Aisha Sulthana Approaches Kerala High Court For Pre-Arrest Bail; Says ‘Criticism On Political Matters Not Sedition’

Lakshadweep filmmaker Aisha Sulthana approached the High Court of Kerala for seeking anticipatory bail in the case for sedition taken against her. The case was over her remarks against the island administration's new regulations. The FIR was based on a complaint by a BJP worker against the alleged remarks made by Aisha Sulthana during a channel discussion. The filmmaker had alleged that the Government of India had used a "bio-weapon" against the island inhabitants.

Orissa HC Dismisses Plea For CCTV Coverage Of Treatment Given To COVID 19 Patients due To Effect on Right To Privacy of Patients

The Orissa High Court dismissed a PIL seeking installation of CCTV cameras and display boards in all the COVID-19 hospitals. The aim behind this PIL was to make the treatment of Corona patients more transparent and accountable to the public. However, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Dr. S. Muralidhar and Justice KR Mohapatra observed that the Petitioner did not take into account the implications such a move would have on the privacy of patients admitted in various hospitals.

Allahabad HC To UP Govt: Compensate Persons Who Were Under Illegal Detention

The Allahabad High Court directed the Uttar Pradesh government to implement its policy of paying Rs 25,000 in compensation to a person who has been illegally detained. It had also directed the UP Government to initiate disciplinary action against erring officials. The court is hearing a petition moved by Shiv Kumar Verma, who alleged that him along with another person had been illegally detained by the police on the apprehension of breaching public peace.

Centre Tells Supreme Court: Delhi’s ONORC Scheme Very Limited

The Central Government informed the Supreme Court that Aam Aadmi Party’s claim regarding the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ (ONORC) plan in the NCT of Delhi is “misleading”. Due to the non-implementation of the ONORC in NCT of Delhi, the Centre claimed that a very large number of inter-state migrants present all across Delhi are not able to take the benefit of their quota of subsidised NFSA food grains in Delhi.

All India Lawyers Union (AILU) Urges CJI To Reject SCBA Proposal 

All India Lawyers Union ( AILU ) urged the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India to reject the proposal of SCBA and may withdraw instructions in favour of the proposal of the SCBA, if any, given to Hon’ble Chief Justices of the High Courts. This was because it would cause far reaching negative consequences, which would impact the independence of judiciary and its transparency. It  would lead to substitution of the opinion of the High Court Collegium by that of the Supreme Court Collegium.

Conversion To Islam Not Relevant For Giving Protection: Allahabad HC

Directing the police to protect an interfaith couple, the Allahabad High Court said that the woman having converted to Islam is not a relevant factor in ensuring that the lack of interference in the liberty of the couple, unless there has been any allegation by her regarding her being forcibly converted. The woman and her husband had moved court alleging interference from their family members.
