Lawyers Move Bombay HC Seeking Policy for Door To Door Covid Vaccination for Senior Citizens, Specially Abled and Medically Challenged Citizens of India

Recently, two lawyers from Maharashtra, namely, Dhruti Kapadia and Kunal Tiwari have filed a plea before the Bombay High Court seeking directions to Central Government to set up a policy on urgent basis to supply COVID Vaccine to advanced age Senior Citizens, Specially Abled and Medically Challenged citizens etc. by offering door to door vaccination services at the earliest.

In this plea they have sought direction to the authorities to provide a helpline number for advanced age senior citizen to book an appointment for home visit of Doctor to COVID-19 Vaccine with medical facility. In addition to this, they have further sought directions for arrangement of ambulances for pick up drop services for advanced age Senior Citizens, Specially Abled and Medically Challenged people who need such services to maneuver out of their house to urge vaccinated. Lastly, they need within the plea, urged the Court to waive off the compulsory adhaar card or pancard number entry details to book online appointment for vaccine. What do you think about this move? Gujarat Assembly finally passes: Freedom of Religion Amendment Bill 2021

On Thursday, the Gujarat Assembly passed the Gujarat Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill 2021 which seeks to penalize forcible or fraudulent religious conversion by marriage and would amend the Gujarat Freedom of Religion Act, 2003.

This Bill has been passed along the lines of the Laws passed by the State of Madhya Pradesh and the State of Uttar Pradesh earlier. In furtherance, this Bill proposes to put in place strong measures with a minimum imprisonment of 3 years (which may extend to 5 years) in case of conversion of an individual and 4 years (which may reach 7 years) if the case involves a minor, woman or an SC/ST [Section 4 (A)].

Patna High Court Seeks Implementation of HIV Patients' Welfare Scheme in the State 

The matter came to light following the Court’s concern by non-implementation of Government schemes for welfare of HIV/ AIDS victims and sought response from the Bihar State AIDS Control Society (BSACS).

In the order by the Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice S. Kumar said that the schemes could also be implemented by April 5, this year. In addition in the order the Bench ordered the Project Director, BSACS, to file his personal affidavit, indicating the steps taken by the society for proper and complete interpretation of various Statute, Rules and Schemes, notified for the benefit of AIDS victims. Calcutta High Court: To Monitor Mentally Ill Prisoners In Terms Of Sheela Barse Case

In this case, Calcutta High Court has registered a suo moto case to monitor the mental health and other allied matters of various convicts and under trial prisoners lodged in various correctional homes in West Bengal and therefore the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This case came into light after, the Supreme Court was dealing with a letter petition highlighting the deplorable manner in which mentally-ill women and children were kept in Presidency Jail at Calcutta.

Related to this matter the Supreme Court had asked all the High Courts to monitor and ensure proper implementation of its orders in their respective States. The judge of every Supreme Court was directed to designate a Judge for this purpose, who would be responsible to make sure the wellbeing of such detenus.

Delhi HC Directs Delhi Police for Report On Alleged Illegal Detaining And Beating Of Man In Matrimonial Dispute 

Let’s check out the case at hand, shall we? According to the case, the alleged incident happened at the Turkman Gate Police Post, New Delhi, and therefore the petitioner, one Umair Siddiqui, has stated that the whole incident would have been the recorded and stored in the two CCTV cameras installed at the Turkman Gate Police Post. The petitioner submitted that the police had "illegally detained the petitioner et al. and mercilessly beaten them."

Following this incident, the Bench of Justice Anu Malhotra of the Delhi Supreme Court has issued notice on a petition alleging illegal detaining and beating of a person involved in a matrimonial dispute by the Delhi Police and directed the police to file a status report on the incident

Madras High Court on Plea against Increase in Court-Fees For Writ Petitions & Writ Appeals

On Wednesday, the Madras High Court on hearing a plea filed in connection with fixation of Court-fees for writ petitions and writ appeals, the Court observed that it is a matter of policy and the Court need not interfere in such decisions.

Pertaining to the matter at hand, the Court asked the State that it may reconsider as to whether the quantum of increase in respect of both writ petitions and writ appeals should be so much and in a single-go. The Court stated in its order that it won't interfere unless, it finds complete arbitrariness or the possibility of manifest injustice resulting in the exclusion of a class of citizens or court-fees being fixed at such levels that shock the conscience of the Court.
