The Orissa High Court, on May 30th has said that "The popular TikTok mobile app needs to be properly regulated as it often demonstrates a degrading culture and encourages pornography." The Orissa HC on Thursday, May 28th observed the above while it was disposing of a bail petition regarding a suicide case that took place in the district of Samabalpur. The bench of S.K. Panigrahi acknowledged that "TikTok mobile app which often demonstrates a degrading culture and encourages pornography besides paedophiles and explicit disturbing content, is required to be properly regulated to save the teens from its negative impact."

It was stated the accused along with the co-accused was alleged to have treated the deceased with direct as well as indirect mental cruelty. And the victim happened to be the husband of the accused, who on July 13, 2019, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his bedroom. The accused and the deceased were married only for about 5 months until his death. The couple got married on February 21, 2019, but it has been reported that the accused was in a relationship with the co-accused, before her marriage. It's claimed that the co-accused had sent some of the intimate and private TikTok videos to the deceased husband, of himself and the accused, who happens to be the victim's wife, reacting to which he ended his life. The videos were also alleged to have been uploaded on social media.

The court declared the app to be inappropriate. It has also asked the government to intervene in such issues and take action if necessary. It said, "The Government has the social responsibility to put some fair regulatory burden on those companies which are proliferating such applications."
