Jammu and Kashmir State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (CDRC) directed United India Insurance (UII) Company Limited to pay Rs 9.50 lakh in two gutted house cases in Kashmir after nine years.

The CDRC bench comprising Justices (retd) G D Sharma and Rifat Aijaz gave the verdict today on an application filed by one Abdul Aziz Lone that the insurance company was not paying the claim amount for two gutted houses at Bandipora in north Kashmir.

Mr Lone in his application said his two insured houses were gutted in a fire incident on March 25, 2000.

The insurance refused to pay the claim without giving any valid reason.

After hearing the parties the CDRC awarded Rs 9.50 lakh in favour of Mr Lone, who had waited for justice for nine-long years.

The Commission has directed the insurance company to pay the amount within a period of 2 months failing which interest has to be paid at the rate of 6 per cent per annum on that amount.

The cost of litigation of Rs 5000 have also been awarded in favour of the complainant.
