INTRODUCTION

  • As the COVID situation in Delhi is now under control and there is a dip in cases, the SCBA has again written a letter to CJI NV Ramana requesting him to recommence the physical hearing of cases in the Supreme Court strictly following the COVID guidelines and appropriate behaviour.
  • It mentions how the SCBA-EC has taken care to ensure the maximum coverage of all the members to get vaccinated. It had purchased vaccines from the Serum Institute of India in bulk, all at private rates and had started the vaccine drive since March 16, 2021.

SCBA's LETTER

In SCBA's letter, it had discussed about the following points.

  • It said that lawyers below the age of 45 years have duly undertaken the vaccination program and the lawyers above the age of 45 years are already vaccinated.
  • The Executive Committee of SCBA is also carrying out the required steps to vaccinate all the members, staffs, clerks as well as their family members and house help.

Preventive steps

The SCBA has rolled out the following preventive steps to further keep the situation under control.

  • The media persons should not be allowed inside the courtroom to avoid its overcrowding. They can watch the proceedings through virtual mode.
  • It was further added that as the litigant’s vaccination status is not known, they should not be allowed into the courtroom.
  • A time limit should be assigned for a particular type of case.
