What is the issue

  • A California man named Ruben Andre Garcia who is 31 years old will serve time behind bars for fraudulently coercing young women to appear in adult videos.
  • He was a Garcia was a producer/performer for the now-defunct website “Girls Do Porn” received a 20-year prison sentence in federal court after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit sex trafficking, fraud, and coercion.
  • Garcia admitted to the fact that he and the owners of the website would recruit women under false pretenses to appear in the outlet’s pornographic films. They would tell the women the videos would not be posted online and would only be distributed to private customers residing outside the United States.
  • However, prosecutors stated that the defendants had no intentions of keeping those promises and they planned to release the videos on fee-based websites and share snippets on third-party platforms, like Pornhub.com.

Observations of the Court

  • U.S. Attorney Randy Grossman said in a statement that the defendant lured his victims with fake modeling ads, false promises, and deceptive front companies after which he threatened to coerce these women into making sex videos.
  • Even when Garcia was confronted by his victims and told how the scheme had devastated their lives, he showed no empathy towards them. The crimes committed by him were heinous and there is no justification for his conduct, which was driven purely by greed.
  • Prosecutors say Garcia lured his victims through fraudulent websites, email addresses, and Craigslist ads that sought clothed models. Once he and his co-defendants received a response, they would inform the women they were seeking porn actresses for one-day shoots that would pay anywhere between $3,000 to $5,000.
  • Federal agents have claimed that the victims were given alcohol and marijuana after their arrival after which they were forced to film subsequent videos.
  • The victims were also allegedly told that the shoots would take only 30 minutes, but typically lasted for several hours. If they refused to comply during the shoots they were told that they had to complete the scene or the production company would sue them, cancel their flights home, or post the videos online.
  • FBI Special Agent stated that Ruben Garcia chose to exploit and deceive these young women for his satisfaction and financial gain for which he is being held accountable for those decisions today.
