The Government is not proposing to amend the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 to prohibit all forms of child labour. Considering the socio-economic conditions of the country and the nature and magnitude of the problem, Government is following a sequential approach of first covering children working in hazardous occupations/processes. This information was given by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shri Oscar Fernandes (Independent Charge) in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
