Lokayukta sleuths raided the office and residences of eight government officials, including two KAS officials, and unearthed property worth more than Rs 19.46 crore disproportionate to their known sources of income. Lokauytka Justice Santosh Hegde said the raids were conducted simultaneously in different districts. He said the exact value of the assets could be more after completion of property valuation. The raids, which began in the morning, were conducted in Bengaluru, Bidar, Mangalore, Shimoga Tumkur, Bellary and Belgaum. The eight officials comprise two KAS officers CEO Belgaum D.B. Naik CEO ZP Tumkur Govindaraj. The other officials are deputy director of town planning H.A. Hafeez, his brother, motor vehicle inspector in Bidar H.A. Iqbal, joint director of watershed development board Bengaluru T.V. Ramadass, deputy commissioner of commercial tax Mangalore Dayananda Poojari, assistant director of agriculture, Shimoga K.G. Manjappa, assistant executive engineer Gescom Bellary Teja Naik, Assistant engineer BBMP Chandrashekhar. Justice Hegde said the raids since this January has reached 80, while the sleuths of Lokayukta have already trapped 186 officials while accepting grafts. "Many officials' assets and lockers are yet to be seized and even the valuation of some property is yet to be finalised. Among the accused officials, T.V. Ramadas owns a poultry farm, the value of which is yet to be ascertained. He had also built one temple inside a farm in Tumkur. The total value of Hafeez and Iqbal brothers is estimated at Rs 1.42 crore. Gescom Bellary AEE Teja Naik owns a petrol bunk, valued at around Rs 1 crore. However, the accused has said that he had invested only Rs 25 lakh, while the rest is funded by Reliance. The investigation is on over such claims," he said.
