Law admission test postponed after paper leak

Candidates say holiday plans will go for a toss

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2009 has been marred by a question paper leak in just its second year of inception.
The exam, scheduled for May 17, has been postponed after authorities found locked steel boxes with the test material tampered with in Lucknow. The new date is yet to be announced.
An estimated 600 students from Mumbai and its suburbs will be among the nearly 15,000 students taking the test for 1,000 seats across the country.
"After CLAT, I was planning to go to my native place Kerala to attend my cousin's marriage on May 28," Ranjit Nair from Chembur said. "If the exams get delayed I will have to skip the marriage."
Veer Singh, convenor, CLAT-2009, said in a notice posted for students: "Two locked and sealed steel boxes containing the CLAT-2009 test material have been tampered with deliberately, by breaking the latches and the locks, while they were in transit from Hyderabad to Lucknow through courier."
"The vice-chancellors of 11 law universities will meet within 48 to 72 hours at Hyderabad to announce the new date for the exam," Senthil Kumar, national marketing head, law school tutorials, Career Launcher, said. "A new question paper will also have to be set. The date will be put up on the CLAT website www.clat.ac.in."
"I hope the new question paper will not be tough," Vivek Chaudhari from Vakola said.
The exams will have to be conducted within 10-15 days, or else it the admission schedule will be affected, Kumar said.
All the candidates have been told to retain the hall-tickets dispatched to them.
