The Kerala High Court observed that the law and order situation in the State was in shambles. The observation was made by Justice V Ramkumar while dismissing bail applications filed by the accused -- Ismail, M E Ali and Prashant Kumar -- in the Rahim Pukudacherry murder attempt case. The law and order situation was least felt in the corridors of power where the current sport is electioneering, Justice Rajkumar observed. He also observed that police had become a fearful and dreaded force and people were reluctant to seek their help. The accused were allegedly involved in the attempt to murder Mr Rahim, head of a spiritual organisation at Pukudacherry in Kottayam district. It was a progressive Muslim organisation and there has been an allegation that certain Muslim fundamentalists were against it. The court also observed that on the basis of cases before the court, it was clear that lethal and deadly weapons like swords and country bombs were manufactured and stocked to unleash fear on their brethren. Many unemployed youths had taken up the job of either killing or maiming people on quotation basis, the court said.
