What is the case

  • On Tuesday, the IMA wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting a strong and effective law "against healthcare violence."
  • The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for stricter regulations to avoid attacks on healthcare personnel.

Details of the case

  • He believes the Government should take initiatives to improve medical morale and health.
  • "On the one hand, people are saying derogatory things about physicians, and on the other hand, they are physically assaulting them," Jayalal said. "Hospitals should be declared a protected zone so that physicians' security is guaranteed, and we need a stringent Act to avoid such incidences."
  • Dr Satyajit Borah, the IMA chief in Assam, reiterated this stance, saying that those who attacked the doctor should be charged under the Epidemic Act.
  • All of those persons must be arrested and charged under strict rules. They should be reported under the Epidemic Act, as well as the Assam Medicare Service Act. "We seek a speedy trial, with a verdict given within three months," Borah stated.
  • "The government needs to come up with a long-term answer." "We demand that the government station armed forces at all healthcare facilities, including Covid care centres," he continued.

  • The medical organisation also stated that the medical community has been working relentlessly throughout the pandemic and is still under threat from healthcare violence.
  • According to the IMA, healthcare violence refers to unprovoked attacks on doctors, healthcare workers, and healthcare facilities.
  • "Across the country, there have been several incidences of healthcare violence. Under the stress of violence, doctors and healthcare workers are finding it difficult to work "the letter read
  • "Across the country, healthcare violence has become a worrying trend. The true scope of the problem is largely unclear, and recent evidence suggests that what we currently know is only the tip of the iceberg "It was also added.
  • The IMA also demanded "prompt strict action" against those responsible for the Assam incident.
