Gujarat High Court directs the State government to ensure that all the private hospitals in Ahmedabad to adopt government specified rates and work out the modalities of fees structure. The Court held that no private hospitals should demand excessive fees for the treatment of Corona virus patients as this is not the time to make profit out of a business, rather hospitals should support the patients in every way possible in this difficult times of COVID19.

The bench also added that only a few private hospitals have been given the permission to treat the corona patients, but they are charging a large amount of money which an ordinary man person cannot afford. And since, all the government hospitals are full with patients, it cannot accommodate more patients and they are forced to go to private hospitals where the fees is too high.

The court added, if the private hospitals do not relax the fee amount and continue to charge exorbitant amount, the Court will take legal actions against such hospitals and fill face hard consequences like that of cancellation of license. It said, this disproportionate amount of fees is a war against humanity and therefore, the State Government should regulate the fee structure of the private hospitals.

The Court also pointed out that that during this difficult times of COVID19, no employee at any point of time, should go on strike and that all the employees should be paid their salaries on time. This comes after around 200 employees of House Keeping Department at SVP hospital in Ahmedabad, were on the verge of going on a strike since they haven’t been paid for the month of May.
