It was a first of its kind in India, a gay parade in three Indian cities - Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata, an attempt by a community to finally be heard. The gay community marched for equal legal rights to repeal section 377 of the Constitution, which criminalises sexual minorities. For transgenders like Chandni, the march was an opportunity to tell the world and her family that she was proud of her sexual identity. ''I decided I will only be happy if I face my fear, now I have a daughter and I am happy and here to create awareness about people like me,'' Chandni said. From Bangalore to Kolkata, the sentiment was the same - 'love us for what we are'. What was perhaps heartening was the number of those who turned up to show their support. Organisers said that it was a sign that change is slowly but surely on its way. By Ms.Bobby Aanand, Metropolitan Jury.
