Reliable estimates on differently abled persons are obtained through surveys conducted by National Sample Survey Office. Last such survey was conducted during July-December 2002. According to this, the number of differently abled persons working as per usual activity status by industry including organized, unorganized and contract labour estimated is given below:

A Scheme of Incentive to the Private Sector for providing employment to differently abled persons was launched with effect from 01.04.2008. Under this Scheme, the Government of India provides the employer’s contribution for Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) for 3 years, for employees with disabilities employed in the private sector on or after 01.04.2008, with a monthly salaryupto Rs.25,000.

 

Under the scheme, 332 (up to 31.12.2011) and 920 (upto March, 2012) differently abled persons have been covered by Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) and Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) respectively.
