CVC disposed of 371 cases in February 2009 MAJOR PENALTY PROCEEDINGS RECOMMENDED AGAINST 65 OFFICERS The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) disposed 371 cases during February 2009 referred to it for advice. The Commission launched prosecution against 10 officers. Of these, 4 were from Central Board of Excise and Custom (CBEC) and 3 from Food Corporation of India. The Commission advised initiation of major penalty proceedings against 109 officers. Of these, a maximum of 24 were from public sector banks, 21 from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., 13 from MCD, 11 from CBEC, 6 from Indian Rare Earth Ltd., 4 from Central Coalfields Ltd. The remaining 30 cases pertained to different departments of the Government of India and PSUs. The Commission also advised imposition of major penalty against 52 officers including 14 from the public sector banks, 12 from the insurance companies, 7 from DDA, 4 from Ministry of Railways, 2 each from Border Roads Development Board, IOCL, MCD, Chandigarh Administration and one each from CBEC, Central Coalfields Ltd., D/o Fertilizers, The State Trading Corporation of India, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangthan, CRPF and M/o I&B. The Commission disposed 685 complaints during the month. Of these, 496 complaints were sent for necessary action/ATR, whereas 124 complaints were sent for investigation and report. On the Commissions recommendations, the administrative authorities took action against 14 officers in various departments/organizations. Sanction for prosecution was issued against officers of which 9 were from M/o of I&B. Major penalty was imposed on 65 officers including 23 from public sector banks, 17 from the insurance companies, 4 from MCD, 3 each from CBDT, IOCL, Indian Council of Agriculture & Research, M/o of I&B, 2 each from M/o of Railways, and DDA. The remaining 5 cases pertained to different departments of the Government of India. Recoveries to the tune of Rs.1.05 crore were effected after Commission conducted technical examination of some departments.
