CHENNAI: The Madras High Court resumed its functioning on Wednesday, five days after it was ordered to be closed by acting Chief Justice S J Mukhopathaya following a clash between lawyers and police in the court premises. But, lawyers including government advocates, stayed away, with judges seen sitting in empty court halls. However, the court staff turned up for duty. Meanwhile, the fast by the advocates demanding action against police entered third day today, with various speakers declaring that the boycott would continue till their demands are met. The full bench of the court on February 20 had declared holiday for the courts till today, after the clashes in which several persons, including a High Court judge Justice Arumuga Perumal Adityan, were injured.
