SC Refuses To Halt Demolition Of Settlements In Faridabad Khori Gaon 

The Municipal Corporation of Faridabad at Khori Gaon has planned the demolition of 10,000 houses. In the Public Interest Litigation on Thursday, the Supreme Court directed that the encroachments on the forest land would have to be removed within 6 weeks. The Bench hearing the matter consisted of Justice A M Khanwilkar and Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, who stated that the Municipal Corporation and the State of Haryana could proceed with the demolition.

Case Against Kamal Hassan Over Mahabharata Comment Quashed By Madras HC 

The Madras High Court quashed a criminal case against actor and politician Kamal Hassan over a reference made to the Mahabharata during an interview in 2017. In this case, Justice G Ilangovan opined that there was nothing insulting to religious feelings in Hassan’s comments and free society enables criticism. The Court decided that Hassan was within the limits of free speech with respect to the comments made on the Mahabharata over the status of women.

Concerns Over SCBA Suggestions Sent To CJI By KHCAA

The Kerala High Court Advocate’s Association (KHCAA) in a letter addressed to the CJI expressed disappointment regarding the resolutions made by the CJI. This move was a follow up of the  proposition made by the Supreme Court Bar Association to the CJI to consider Supreme Court lawyers for elevation as High Court judges. The letter strongly disapproved of the SCBA proposal and pleaded to the CJI to withdraw any directions given. It also stated that the entire legal fraternity was displeased with the aforementioned SCBA proposition that deemed a certain class of lawyers as more meritorious.

Karnataka High Court Grants Default Bail To UAPA Accused In Bengaluru Riots Case 

The Karnataka High Court has granted a default bail to the 115 people accused in the Bangalore Riots Case. The bail was granted under Section 167 (2) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The order of the National Investigating Agency (NIA) was set aside by Justice S Vishwajith Shetty. The Court also ordered that the accused would be released on bail after a bond of Rupees 2 Lakh was executed. The case in question was Muzammil Pasha V. National Investigating Agency.

Producer Gets 20 Years Jail For Persuading Women To Do Adult Scenes

A California man has been sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment by a Federal Court for fraudulently coercing women to appear in adult pornographic videos. 31 year old Rueben Garcia has been charged with conspiracy to commit sex trafficking by coercion, force and fraud. He used to recruit women on false pretences and promised that the videos would not be posted online. However, these videos were posted and shared with third party online sites.
