What Exactly Happened

  • The suit is flawed, according to Justice Jag Jivan Ram Midha, who dismissed it on technical grounds. “The plaintiffs have abused and misused the legal system, resulting in judicial time waste. The plaintiffs are have to pay a fee of Rs 20 lakh. The plaintiffs must deposit the cost of Rs 20 lakh with the Delhi State Legal Services Authority within one week”, according to the court which added that if the money is not deposited within that time, the DLSA will reclaim it in accordance with the law.
  • According to the court, the money would be used to help road accident victims.

What Led To Such Dismal

  • Prior to the hearing on June 2, Chawla posted a link to the virtual hearing on her Twitter and Instagram accounts encouraging people to attend.
  • Apart from singing songs, as from Centre's side the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta was arguing, several of the participants employed thumbs down and laughter emojis that hovered across the screen. Mehta had dismissed the lawsuit as frivolous, claiming there was no basis for it.
  • The appellants were chastised by the court on June 2 for contacting the court directly rather than going through the administration. It also questioned the need for the litigation to include a long range of defendants, including the World Health Organization.
