'Defective, Vexatious': Delhi HC Dismisses Juhi Chawla's Civil Suit Against 5G Roll Out With Rs 20 Lakhs Cost
The petition filed by the Actor Environmentalist Juhi Chawla along with two others which focused on the rollout of 5G Telecommunication services until its certified safe, was held defective and non-maintainable by the Delhi High Court. The Court also held that the plea had vexatious and unverified assertions. The bench of Hon’ble Justice Midha held that the suit was filed to gain publicity noting how Chawla had circulated the weblink of the proceedings on social media. The Hon’ble Judge considered it as the abuse of process of law and imposed costs of 20 Lakh upon the Plaintiffs.

Even though the judgment says that every journalist is entitled to protection, there’s a chance that it may still not provide sufficient protection to the Journalist and deter the authorities from misusing the law. Fortunately for him, Dua was within the permissible limits laid down in the decision of Kedar Nath Singh. But other journalists may not be so lucky. For them, a reiteration of the law as laid down in Lohia could have helped. The Lohia Judgment could have helped the Lalit Saran bench to clarify the law.

A Vacation Bench of Justices Navin Sinha and Ajay Rastogi dismissed the petition challenging the High Court’s order granting pre-arrest bail to TV Journalist Varun Hiremath accused of raping a 22-year-old woman in Delhi. The Delhi High Court is the case at hand, had granted anticipatory bail to the accused. Despite hearing the arguments made by the Senior Counsel against the anticipatory bail, the Apex Court held that it was not inclined to interfere with the anticipatory bail granted to the accused and dismissed the SLP.

Gareeb Nawaz Mosque Demolition: Contempt Plea Moved In Allahabad High Court Against Local Authorities
A contempt petition has been filed by one Sayyad Farooq Ahmad, through counsel Advocate Mohd. KumailHaider in the Allahabad High Court against the Sub-Divisional Magistrate concerning the recent demolition of Gareeb Nawaz Mosque. The Masjid was demolished in May claiming it to be an illegal structure. The Petitioner has also prayed for a judicial inquiry to be initiated in the matter. The Contempt plea states that there has been noncompliance ofthe High Court’s order staying all demolitions across Uttar Pradesh till May 31st in light of the covid 19 pandemic and the demolishing of the Masjid was contemptuous.

Kerala High Court Seeks ED Response On Black Money Case Where BJP Leaders Are Under Scanner
The Kerala High Court was hearing a writ petition filed by SaleemMadavoor according to whom the ED was not taking any action even when an offense involving Crores of money was detected. The Court on Friday sought the response of the Enforcement Directorate on the plea that seeks directions to the central agency to look into the Kodakara Black Money case in which the BJP leaders were alleged to be involved. The Single Judge Bench of Hon’ble Justice Mary Joseph has directed the ED to file a response in 10 days.

Himachal Pradesh High Court Stays Arrest Of A Journalist Who Exposed Irregularities In E-Pass System By Procuring Pass Using Names Of Amitabh Bachchan, Donald Trump
Aman Kumar Bhardwaj, a journalist, was arrested for applying for an e-pass in the names of Amitabh Bachchan and Donald Trump with his Aadhar details which allowed the visitors to enter the State of Himachal Pradesh during Covid-19. His action revealed the irregularities in the system as the e-passes were generated without any verification.
An FIR was lodged against the Journalist on the day he broadcasted the news and the arrest was stayed by the Single Judge Bench of Justice Ajay Mohan Goel. It was ordered that till the next date of the hearing, no coercive action will be taken against the Petitioner, the Journalist.

Bombay HC Faults Lawyer's Article Critical Of Judiciary In Stan Swamy's Bail Case
The Hon’ble Bench of Justice S. S. Shinde asked the lawyers to keep faith in Judiciary while hearing Hany Babu’s, another accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, interim medical bail plea. The Court instructed the lawyers to avoid writing criticism and opinion pieces in the cases in which they appear. The Court held that if the lawyers think that writing articles in the newspapers will help them succeed, it was not right.
