After much dithering, the government has finally decided to introduce a Bill in the ensuing session of Parliament to open up India's higher education sector to foreign entities and regulate their entry and operation. The Foreign Educational Institutions (Regulation of Entry and Operations, Maintenance of Quality and Prevention of Commercialisation) Bill 2007, which got the Cabinet's nod in February 2007 and was being delayed, will be placed before the Parliament this session, which could be the last sitting of the House under the tenure of the UPA government. "The Bill has been listed to be tabled before the Parliament in the coming session," a highly placed official of the HRD Ministry said.
