Allahabad High Court Takes Suo Motu Cognizance Of Lawyer's Unruly Behavior

What happened

• The candidates and their supporters entered the voting arena and misbehaved with the female lawyers and even tore the ballot papers.
• As a result of the incident, a lawyer suffered a heart attack and one lawyer got serious injuries and a hand fracture.

What was the effect

• The Court expressed their pain on the indecent and undemocratic behaviour and breach of protocol by some of the lawyers, due to which the election of Awadh Bar Association was cancelled.
• The High Court took suo moto cognizance of the unruly behaviour of the lawyers during the election procedure for the Bar election.

Requests of the Court

• The Senior Registrar was asked to submit a report with respect to security and unlawful activities during the election in the High Court.
• The report includes video clippings, photographs and material collected that led to the cancellation.
• The Chairman of Elders’ Committee also gave certain suggestions for future elections and the Court has requested him to submit those in writing.
• The other members were also asked to give their suggestions to the Chairman in writing.
