Product defect resulting in fire

Hi,

A friend of mine runs a startup in Delhi NCR where he rents out electric appliances through vendors. A very serious issue has happened wherein a customer has alleged that due to the fault in ac, short circuit happened hence resulting in fire at his place, wherein all his belongings have burnt. What will be the correct procedure in such a situation. Should there be individual liability of my friend's start up or the vendor who put the ac or joint liability? Also, how to ascertain if the fire actually happened because of what they are alleging about the fault in ac. Please guide!

You may show all docs on record to a very able counsel specializing in such/consumer matters.

If the start up was only a fascillitator and was not involved in installation etc it may be absolved.
