Legal query - vehicle accident

My son sold a bike to new owner and the vehicle registration changed., after some time the new owner had hit a person and that person died of injuries. The 2nd owner not changed the insurance and the original insuranc done by my son still valid.. now he got a notice for compensation.. my doubt is after vehicle registration transfer how can the 1st owner held responsibile.. what are the remidies.

Give a reply answer to the notice of the insurance company with proof of the docuement of transfer of ownership.

Thanks sir for your advice. The notice is not from the insurance authority, it is from a advocate from the side of victim ,

i am from my home town.. it seems they asked to apper in court on 25th january and askig for compenastion... as we have legally transfered how can we responsible for compenasation.
