‘A’ promises to drop prosecution instituted against ‘B’ for robbery and ‘B’ promises to restore the value of the things taken. The agreement is void, as its object is unlawful.
Why the object is unlawful?

According to Section 10 of The Contract Act, only those agreements are contracts which are a form with the free consent of the parties, competent to contract for lawful consideration and with lawful  Object. So it is necessary for the validity of the contract, that its object and consideration must be lawful. If the consideration or the object of the contract as a whole or partly is unlawful, the contract is void and not valid.
