I had read it somewhere that if you are imprisoned for 14 years,the effective time in jail would be 7 years. Is that true??? Can anyone tell me where it is written???

No, 24 hours will be considered as a day.
And there is no offence in IPC for which 14 years sentence is prescribed. I think you have a misconception like many people that life imprisonment means 14 years, it means imprisonment for life
