How rich people manage to escape jail

I have seen two senerio's  of  working of law 

1.  There are people who donot  fear from law , Take an example of big  corporate  compnies/rich people   who have 100's of pending  criminal complaints  but they rarely bother about it   .. ..I guess there lawyers/political contacts  manage everything .  (ofcourse  some rich people have to go to jail to but  they are often due to media pressure or  other party is very powerful)

2. Ordinary citizen , who  are put  in jail because  there is dispute of  amount as low as   few  thousands rupees  and they stay in jail for few weeks/months  before even getting bail ...

Please elaborate how  rich people escape from jail  ... and what should an ordinary  citizen should do to escape from jail if someone try to trap him/her  as  lot of acts  are grossly miused in india  .
